TESTIMONIALS
Here’s what some of our participants have said about The Lift Project…
I thoroughly enjoyed The Lift Project. Darren’s videos are engaging, entertaining and highly informative. After completing the course, I felt inspired to take care of my own health and wellbeing. Darren gives intelligent, practical tips in the most relatable manner. The Lift Project is a lifestyle overhaul and a great resource to check in to keep on track.
I love the format where you can either read or watch the video. I appreciate the data that is cited to support all of the information that is shared. Seeing the science behind the different topics helps to support the information. I like how the weekly lessons help to provide very manageable action steps.
I enjoyed the little snippets of wisdom and easy things that I could incorporate into my daily life to make my life better. I enjoyed thinking about things in a different way. I also loved the little gifts that I received! My colleagues loved them, too, and it made us feel connected.
I really enjoyed the various modalities in which we could discover the lift project through – I personally loved the videos and I loved the music and visuals that went along with it. My mom, sister, and I would always watch the videos on Sunday evenings and I believe it helped put us in a good mindset prior to staring the week ahead. I also loved Darren in the videos I think that he is very good to listen to and calming.
I liked the videos – I almost felt calmer just listening to them. I also likedall of the explanations that were given. Since I am not an expert on how the brain works – I appreciate the easy to understand explanations. I also liked that it gave specific things I can do- my big takeaway was making sure to talk to myself more positively. I am a worrier and not thinking about everything that could go wrong is very helpful to my mental well being. The instructor was awesome and he just has a way about him that makes you feel less stressed.
Everything about The Lift Project was amazing. I would love to be able to have access to the videos for eternity, so I can put it into practice with my family. I can build positive relationships and use different strategies on a daily basis. This lift project was phenomenal. Being engage within myself taking the steps to improve my limbo functions. I would highly recommend the Lift Project for families. We seem to be busy in our daily lives and not having time to socialize with family. I will be reviewing the 7 steps again but this time with my family. I like how he change then explain the acronym of PEARM.
I loved the weekly lessons. I sat quietly while watching the videos and found them so therapeutic. I’m a pretty healthy person but I learned new things every week, things about my world that are in front of me everyday. I just really enjoyed the weekly lessons.
I like that every year I do the Lift Project I learn something new. It is always good to be reminded to take care of myself.
I like that it is run on a weekly basis. I like that you have the option to listen, read, or watch each week. I like that the sessions are short and sweet but pack a punch in terms of meaningful information. These are great reminders about the impact and control you have over your own mental wellbeing. It is good to be reminded of these things.
I liked the video clips to introduce the week’s topic and then the challenge for the week. It was all relatable and could easily be applied to my own life.
It gives me something positive to focus on. It improved my mindset when I was feeling down.
Makes you think of things you may take for granted.
The self-driven lessons and the fact that you had multiple ways of learning each lesson, whether it was reading or listening or watching it.
I enjoyed the weekly lessons and the challenges. It pushed me to try new ways to show and be more positive.
It’s nice to have a reminder of things that will improve your well being. Sometimes you know the information but need a reminder to put the information into practice.
It’s a research-based prescription for life!
It allowed me to have some self guided “me time” and I learned new ways to change my mental outlook.
I liked that it was educational but fun! The lessons were packed with a lot of information that I will use over and over again. I liked all the different resources that were attached to each lesson.
The Lift Project has helped me in many ways, but in particular I really appreciated the discussion about the Love Languages and took this information into my marriage. My husband and I had a good chat about it and I think it has helped us to communicate more effectively. I am always looking for new ways to look at things and opportunities to help me grow both personally and professionally, and The Lift Project has exceeded my expectations. Thank you so much for this very useful experience! (Lilah)
It was educational but fun. Love his sense of humor and the information was presented well. I have already suggested it to a friend to take the course.
I loved everything about LIFT!!! I asked my husband to do Lift with me because he was struggling so much after his dad died this year. It really helped him see challenges and life in a new way and it helped us get closer to discuss ideas about health and healthy positive habits. Most of these habits in LIFT I live everyday so it was just wonderful to reinforce being positive and living with passion and purpose! Thank you! (Jennifer)
I was in a very low point in my life; feeling constantly overwhelmed, stressed and hopeless. The material covered in this program provided the wake-up call I needed to get active and do something to change the way I felt. I went to a physician, started eating right again, got active and included my family on this journey to health and wellbeing. (Gina)
Our family went through a very personal trauma, I did not know how sad and depressed I was getting. The Lift Project was introduced through my employer and when I started it get into it it started to make me feel and think positively, I felt alive and vibrant, it gave me peace of mind and hope. (Deb)
I started a personal growth journey about 2 years ago. Before this journey really began, I lived to please other people. I wanted to keep people happy with me as well as happy with themselves and the world. I took on their happiness as my responsibility. I have learned to set healthy boundaries and be focused on ME – my overall health and wellbeing. This course was perfect for me in providing me with resources and more information about my growth. (Bethany)
The Lift Project truly did help me process things happening in my life at the moment and has made a lasting impact on me.
I have been having a pretty hard time lately emotionally and mentally and it was starting to affect my physical health as well. This really did give me ways to help and I think it will be strategies I can use long term as well. It really seemed to speak to what I needed to get me through this year. The strategies were things I could use in different situations throughout my daily life and it is helping improve myself, making me stronger little by little. (Angie)
My daughter was dealing with a severe bullying situation at school. It affected the entire family. Studying and implementing The Lift Project in our lives made a tremendous improvement. I witnessed my daughter going through extreme anxiety to relaxing and feeling empowered with skills and educational information. She has even spent a few hours talking to me about forgiveness and understands that she must forgive for her wellbeing. We also spoke about boundaries. I see she has grown in resilience. We’ll return to doing the program at least twice a year. I’ll be happy to get involved and help spread the word. (Karla)
I liked the fact that I was able to share what I learned with others and my children. The lessons were packed with alot of information that I will use over and over. Acronyms especially help you to remember the important information in the lesson. I wish our young adults in high school/college had an opportunity to incorporate these wonderful lessons into their beginning lessons of expectations as so much is learned about yourself and how we can reach out to others. (A part of their mental health classes).
I like the way the information is presented, and appreciate all the different resources attached to each lesson. Even though I am a mental health professional, I struggle at times with explaining and sometimes understanding the way the brain works. Having it presented the way it was in The Lift Project made it easy for me to understand and relay to others. I appreciate the thoughtful approach to handling some topics that can be difficult to make change in, like eating choices and challenging negative thinking.
Food feeds your mood (eating nutritiously) has had the most impact. I have never understood the physiology behind eating, however eight weeks post a diet change and I’m now feeling far more energetic and alive!
This is one of the most uplifting course I have done for myself . I have placed everything and everyone as a priority and my stress level was extremely elevated. Thank you Darren, for your wisdom and enlightenment. This course has opened my mind to take care of me, to be here in the present, to flourish abundantly for myself and for others. I am extremely grateful and my new mission statement is “If it will not challenge me, it will not change me”. I will share this with my family and coworkers and plan to practice all the exercises with my students, minus the hand gliding! Blessings on all your future projects and a big!!!!! shout out to Jas.
We were able to do The Lift Project as a (small) group as part of our staff health and wellbeing program. We did this before the COVID19 pandemic hit. Staff had already undertaken the learnings of The Lift Project and were prepared for times changing. We saw an increase in staff engagement in the workforce even though everyone is working remotely. We have given back to our clients and sponsored some of their staff to do the lift project.
One year ago I was in a dark and depressed state of mind. Unhappy with my work and the societal conditions around me. I was not exercising but rather drinking alcohol almost daily. My work was unfulfilling and I yearned for a meaningful life. Why was I here? I found out where and when I am happy – around kids. I made a career change and now I am an Elementary Afterschool Teacher. I am so much happier and fulfilled. It also challenges me daily. I enrolled in The Lift Project through my school district and I am grateful I did. I am happier towards my wife and my children and I sleep better at night. Thank you for helping me. (Brian)
I was really struggling with a lot of challenges in my work and personal life. I have had counselling in the past along with other strategies to help. I found the Lift Project tied together all aspects of my life that I could control and gave me a reason as to why my brain was struggling. It made me feel more human. Some days are better than others but I think about the lessons I’ve learnt and try to engage in one of the themes. I think this is teaching should be mandatory for workplaces and in schools. I believe it would make a huge difference in peoples lives.
The length of lessons was just right and the messaging was clear. I liked the themes of each lesson and the practical applications, as well as the mid week lifts. I forwarded the link to a number of friends. It would be great if this could be made widely available like through Beyond Blue as it would benefit so many people. Or through schools as I think the mental health of kids is the worst its ever been.
I really liked the different delivery options and being able to listen and watch videos, as well as the workbook that I could go through in my own time. Liked that there was a version that I could show my teenager that was in language that was easy for her to follow and the more technical version as I like to learn the how and why aspects as well. The mid week prompts were great and I felt like the amount of correspondence was spot on, with enough reminders but not feeling flooded with info.
I feel how truly lucky we are to have a GP who offered the program to help our local community. To have the confirmation from a different source that we are active participants in the life we create for ourselves. I have talked to people in other communities about how wonderful the program is and I also think it is a program for schools.
It validated that we are active participants in our mental health, physical health and well being. We create out own reality and if thoughts no longer work for us we can change them. Congratulations on a truly awesome program.
The content is very engaging and thorough without being too long. I enjoyed the variety in the challenges and love having the workbook to use alongside the lessons.I liked the mental break down on how to think on things to help improve your well being.
The Lift Project was very well delivered, both in content and presentation. The messages were uplifting and encouraging without being invasive no matter’s one’s lifestyle or age group. They were light and encouraging.
I learned new things even though I thought I was coming from what I thought was a knowledgeable background. Concepts were so simply put which made it easier to talk about with other people. Having an area or two to focus on each week (and the email reminder) was helpful. My kid thought the videos were very funny. I definitely felt my mood lifted from week one, even though I was starting from a good place. There were noticeable and immediate benefits. I liked the different formats, video, reading or audio so I could choose how to get the information, eg if I was in public or pressed for time I could read it or if I was in the car I would play it and the whole family would listen.
I liked building on from week to week learnings for ongoing wellbeing. Nice balance of theory & practical application. Good resources to delve into for further learning. Easy going, encouraging approach by presenter Dr Darren. Gratitude & kindness week was the highlight of the course for me. Thanks for an enjoyable & uplifting course!
The clear and fascinating scientific explanations. The videos are easy to watch and remember. The messages are clear, which means that I can apply it in life. I think that the Lift Project will be positively affecting the way I live my life for many years to come. I plan on continuing to change as I implement the advice. Many thanks to Dr Darren Morton for the series and to Maroondah Council for making it available to residents.
The easy to watch videos and examples on what you can do to lift your mood. I like how Darren is very personal and down to earth yet extremely educational in what he’s talking about. I like how it’s made simple and encouraging and putting each individual in the driver’s seat for their own wellbeing.
The videos were a good length – easy to watch and understand. It was all delivered in a really enjoyable way and I felt that these changes are easy to make and sustain into the future.
In week 3 of The Lift Project my mum was admitted to hospital for severe mental health issues including suicide watch and addiction. The Lift Project became a major point of talking for both my mum and I to discuss what was learnt that week and how it compares to what she was learning in her group sessions while there. Mum bought Darren’s book Live More Happy and was really able to connect with that. In particular (Lesson 7) Service.
The Lift Project challenges kept me grounded, I am working full time still and pregnant. It helped me to maintain a positive mindset. With everything else going on around me I could have given in easily and developed poor mental health myself as I have in the past. But focusing on Let’s Lift Lake Mac was a way to remain focused on what’s important, keeping myself and my bub healthy!
I was in a really bad frame of mind when I saw the program advertised. Due to work place bullying I used to go to work, come home mentally exhausted and go to sleep right after dinner. Life for me was very negative. The program came at a very good time for me and I had already requested and was granted long service leave so a perfect time to do the program. I followed the program closely and although I am still not my old self, I’m feeling like I’m heading in the right direction. I’ve been walking much more than I ever had before on a daily basis. I was trying the healthy eating but still having difficulty with that. I’ve been listening to more comedy and that has helped with de-stressing. I’ve also been helping out some friends and practiced some of the skill with them and I believe they too have benefited. Thank you Lake Mac for offering this program to everyone. I know my mood has been Lifted!
I was able to forgive someone for their actions towards me. I had been holding onto that anger for months. I affected me but not that person as they stayed the person they are. I interact with this person regularly and they are in my upward management line. Forgiving them made a huge difference. It has been cathartic for me. Thank you from me and my husband.
During the Project my family were able to have conversations about the content of each week and apply the ideas into that week. We have all since retained the habits of good eating, changing our attitude toward self talk (to help maintain good well being) and able to remind each other of this as well. This project created new ways to look at our actions, thoughts and assist each other in changes.
I work at a primary school as a student support officer. I was able to share the tips I learnt through this course and was able to explain it in a clear way. I did notice positive changes in students and I was able to easily remind them of tools with just one word.
I was most affected by the ‘eat more fibre’ concept. By following the links to Full Plate living, I learned more about this concept. In a few short weeks, I am adding more fibre foods to all my meals; I am enjoying food; I feel satisfied throughout the day; I am losing weight (for the first time in a long time of trying everything) which is giving me more energy to exercise which obviously has flow on benefits. This has revolutionised the way I eat and the way I feel! I am so grateful for this insight.
Taking the time to reflect on how I interacted with my spouse was very beneficial. I discussed with him alot of the content, and it allowed us both to reflect on some of our habitual relationship behaviours that were not lifting each other up – but more constantly competing for equality. Loving first, is a great concept that allowed us both to identify where we often criticize first. It is really good to be reminded to take the time out to reflect on what we do every day.
It was thought provoking, encouraging and challenging. Darren’s enthusiasm and passion is contagious. It was scientifically based, easily accessible, professional and practical. Thank you Darren for your work in putting this together and translating your research into a simplistic, understandable format!
I liked the ability to take quite complex concepts and translate them into understandable chunks and doable achievable actions. I liked the range of issues covered that formed a cohesive whole. I also enjoyed the challenges, the mantras on the posters and the additional resources available. I used all of them. I liked the sense that a community of people were undertaking the course and sharing their achievements. An unexpected bonus for me was learning about the places people walked, as I’m new to the area this was a bonus. I enjoyed the positivity that Darren brought to the course. I’m supporting my 32 year old daughter who has terminal cancer and has two young girls, this course gave me an extra lift as we approach Christmas and I thank you for that.
I like the scientific approach. Understanding the physiology of it gives me more motivation than someone just telling me I should do something. I enjoyed the connection with others on facebook & particularly as they were in the local area. Felt like a community & found some great walking paths. It was helpful having the mid week email. When the week gets busy & there are lots of other things happening it was helpful to be reminded of the challenge & be able to refocus.
I loved the messages and the realistic goals in each lesson. I like that it gave me a focus to work on improving for the week. And after viewing the lesson you couldn’t help but smile due to Darren and the other presenters in the videos. There was some amazing content in the program and I liked that it felt very, very relevant in these times. I really think it saved my sanity the last few weeks in lockdown. I am so grateful, including to Lake Mac Council for providing this wonderful program! Thank you so much!
I found the educative content of the feeling module and tips of the stress less module to be particularly helpful. I’m a uni and school chaplain so this is something I’ve shared in my work and have encouraged others to participate in. I’m also about to resume tertiary study and this will be useful material to balance all the priorities of work, study, play, and service. Thanks!
It not only helped me but in a sense it brought the community together in learning about mental health and how we can make a difference with ourselves and others.
I loved receiving emails each week for a new topic and found myself looking forward to it each week. The content was very informative, motivating and provided great tips for improving well-being. The videos were engaging and of a good duration. I liked the links for extra learning material also. Overall, it gave me the themes to focus on day to day and I am very grateful for these lessons – Thank you to all involved.
Darren’s delivery is exceptional. Engaging and entertaining. Practical implementation based on strong theory that is delivered in everyday terminology.
Doing it as part of Let’s Lift Lake Mac I felt engaged with my local community in a positive way. It was encouraging to see how many people in the community were keen to invest in their mental health and well-being. I found the FB group to be very supportive. It will be sad to see that finish. The weekly catch phrases are fun and easy to remember.
I looked forward to each Friday morning in our workplace. On Friday our whole team would get together, eat breakfast, watch the lesson for the week and discuss the lesson afterwards. TLP was much needed, I believe, especially during the coronavirus lockdown. Intentionally taking the time out to remind ourselves of all these important things that lead to a more fulfilling and less stressed lifestyle.
The Lift Project is an excellent program. It deserves to be pitched to everyone, whether with mental health issues or not. It helps to educate those who are mentally healthy to be aware so that they can recognise the signs of mental illness and to do something about it before it gets worse, especially for young people. Prevention is better than the cure with medication. For those who have mental health issues, it gives them hope that there is a way to improve their mental health, that there is a light at the end of a dark tunnel.
The Lift Project provided the tools to better yourself, your mental health, physical wellbeing, relationships. My husband and I used to look forward to the weekly video and material, we will miss it. As new to the area, we loved it when people posted different places, we’ll have lots to discover now, thank you.
I liked the simplicity of it, and the light hearted style. Even thought my partner wasn’t participating, it was easy to share some of the videos and tips with him and then discuss things like how much our diet affects mood, as the funny video drew him in!
I loved the positivity; the science presented with simplicity so that all ages could understand. It was easy to share main ideas with friends and colleagues. I love that my positivity flows on to those around me. I was able to make very conscious change at work, and I believe this has uplifted the whole workplace. There is definite change. I also love the catchphrases- your limbo is listening- it just sticks with you throughout the day
I found each of the topics very interesting and when reviewing some of the additional links often got caught up in continuing to follow through to different sites with further information. Hope to be able to follow up with more of this.
Completed this with my team at LMCC – is was a great platform discussed every week and include in our professional development plans
The Lift Project presented important, factual information that contributes to enhanced mental health in a format accessible to an audience of all ages. The information and research findings were explained in sessions on relevant topics that were of a length that made it accessible & was more likely to hold people’s attention. The language used was easy to understand, with examples that people could relate to or had experienced, with ideas on how to apply the info presented in do-able ways. The presenter was enthusiastic, knowledgeable, positive and optimistic with a very engaging style! Research findings were explained in every day language, in a relatable manner, with appropriate examples. Having research findings to back up statements made the information credible. The visuals used were helpful to those not familiar with these concepts, and also emphasised some points (e.g. using water in a glass jar to demonstrate idea of ‘sustainable giving’). I enjoyed the humour: it made the session fun and memorable, I would often find myself smiling. Additional sections on the topics were useful. In summary, it was an enjoyable, memorable, informative program with many applications to enhance one’s mental health, one’s happiness and that of others. THANK YOU!
I shared some of the learnings with some family members who have been struggling and it gave us some good stuff to talk about, putting the suggestions into our context so we could make some changes. Every little difference, makes a difference. Looked forward to my reminder email from the lift project every week.
I have forwarded the entire series to our organisational psychologist who loved and it will try and incorporate some similar strategies into our emergency services organisation.
Raising teenage children can be difficult at times, throw in a hideous traumatic event and you question if you have the skills and capability to get them through to a better stage in life. You wonder if the situation will ever get better and your most beloved will rise from the abys. Yes, this all sounds like it is about me. The Lift Project has set me on a better way to live my life, feel better and rebuild. This is massively important as I now have the strength to help my family. I feel stronger, more present and importantly meaningfully contributing to the family. I do like to refer to the quote ‘If you can find a path with no obstacles, it probably doesn’t lead anywhere.’ Frank A. Clark. Even when having issues this can bring a small ironic smile to my face.
Being a dad of two under 5 year olds and The Lift Project helped me regain and rethink the way we live and impowered ways of change and better routines for kids.
Many of us put a high priority on work and responsibilities believing that ‘getting things done’ will help us to feel better about life. The Lift program has challenged me give a higher priority to some very simple interventions for my own wellbeing. Choosing to spend time outdoors, exercise, eat well and connect with others has not only helped me to feel better but has also increased my effectiveness at work. They are simple steps but, in clearly explaining the science behind the impact of these steps, the Lift program has taken away the guilt that many of us feel when prioritising our own wellbeing. These interventions are not only good ideas, but they are also good science. I cannot recommend the course highly enough – it is a simple yet powerful game changer!
One of the concepts I have engaged with the most is paying compliments to strangers eg, a very nice young man who served me at my local supermarket. So often people a quick to criticise. I was so impressed with the service I received and the attitude of the employee that I emailed their head office with my compliments. I received an answer back that, not only would the local manager be told, but also their regional manager. I was happy that I may have helped this young employee in some way.
I live with people who live with depression, this course gave me the strength, reminder and hope to see each day is temporary. No matter if the day is wonderful or painful it doesn’t last, and this course gave me clear strategies to take care of myself holistically and ride this fantastic thing we call life.
I did it with my mum. The positive affect on my life as well as my mums who had a stroke this year, survived and recovering nicely but just stick in a rut of depression. Each week I would share with her, a few things/something from the weekly topic. She was interested and I believe it helped her overcome this depression. Still gets sad of course, but a great improvement. We shared and practiced the ‘what went well today’, we did a few exercises, we encouraged her to have an afternoon nap to help with her mood – listened to video encouraging this. Yes it was a great project.
So positive, very easy to access and a great benefit not just to myself, but to the wider community. It should be taught in schools! You are doing a great, job l would do it every year if available.
It’s structure was great. The timing was ideal for me. I enjoyed Darren’s enthusiasm and involvement of his own family to provide examples of the ideas and practices. The whole project was easy to access on my mobile phone as I don’t have my own computer (due to planned obsolescence) atm. It was very professionally filmed with great footage of Lake Macquarie and recommendations of local activities to tap into. The timing was good and I found it very user-friendly. It was up to date and grounded in facts and research yet not too complicated.
I have a family with two teenage girls, currently we have struggled with various issues including mental health. I seem to be time poor and struggle with finding clear air to focus on the things that really do matter. The Lift Project has greatly assisted me to refocus and get back to enriching my life. Lift has reinforced very important building blocks of having a great life and reinvigorated my energy to being better. Lift was very well constructed, the information was presented in a great manner, not sermon like, but almost like friend to friend. The setting nestled in Lake Macquarie was perfect. I live on the lake, and it is a wonderous place to live, and this was used to great effect in the clips. Darren came across as sincerely invested and motivated to help us all live our best life. There was a reassuring honesty about the delivery of the messages and commitment to help us all get what we needed out of The Lift project. We all know Darren likes a good quote. I like to trek in remote areas and always come back to this quote when I need the motivation to get out and about ‘Great things are done when men and mountains meet; this is not done by jostling in the street’ – William Blake.”
It was very easy to understand and presented in a variety of ways to cater for different peoples needs and methods of learning. It reenforced ideas that I knew and made sense of a lot of ways of caring for yourself.
The videos are easy to watch using a variety of images and an authentic and positive narrative. I also valued the research base and the inclusion of expert opinions. I like the simplicity of the messages and the clarity of information. I liked that the videos are short enough to avoid putting the viewing off, yet long enough to explore the topic in some detail. I also appreciated the additional research information and enjoyed reading a number of them.
Scientifically based. Excellent videos supported by sound information explaining everything very clearly & simply. Great challenges & outstanding reading & research material.
Each week a topic to motivate you. I enjoyed the knowledge presented on each topic, the easy applications offered in life, the positive affect on my life as well as my mums who had a stroke this year, survived and recovering nicely but just stick in a rut of depression. Her mood improved as did mine. Great topics, great challenges, great project.
I love the positivity. The fact that the course takes very sophisticated research and presents it in a simple yet powerful way. I like how it built on previous weeks to make a comprehensive and powerful model. Well done.
The way the content was made so accessible to meet a variety of learning styles. The backbone of research at its foundation. The positive ideas with practical suggestions to get you started. Dr Darren Morton’s delightful teaching style.
The Lift Project did make me think more positively – I really enjoyed taking part in it each week. Thank you for the experience.
Extremely practical. Easy to understand and engage with. Lots of excellent resources. Set in and directly set in Lake Maquarie area. The presenter is extremely knowledgable, relatable and a skilled communicator. A very interesting presentation of a very important area of life.
I really enjoyed the challenges as I am a competitive and self motivated person. Once a challenge is accepted by me, I would keep going and get as much of the process done as I can. But sometimes you just don’t have someone to challenge you (in a good way). So I’m appreciative that the LIFT project challenged me! Thank you everyone who’s behind this amazing project for all the hard work you have and are still doing.
Having awareness that my limbo is listening has made me more conscious of what I am thinking at times. And knowing that my gut will feel better when I eat better has helped me in making better food choices as compared to before The Lift Project.
I felt the Lift Project gave me something to look forward as each lesson was released gradually. It was great that the strategies that were shared could be implemented into my daily life, and listening to the lessons served as a helpful reminder.
Getting to do this with my wife and sharing with her our thoughts about the lessons, our views and feelings gave me awareness of things that I took for granted or that she’d take for granted.
I feel the course content reinforced in me, my confidence to live my life my way, bringing every aspect of life together, and how each and every aspect of our life’s choices, makes us who we are, and it is a choice, some of us have to work on it more thoroughly than others but it is all up to the individual and in times when we can’t get there on our own, reach out for support, and know that their is support.
I often pick up my grandchildren from school and cook their dinner. They are good students and do their homework while I sometimes do my “Lift” exercises or make notes for my book group before I make the meal. Recently the oldest asked me if he could be in a book group with me. I was delighted as he loves Maths but not so much English. We discuss his school English book as I drive him to his soccer. He is learning to express complex ideas such as “the insanity defense” for criminals and whether early family violence effects later criminal behaviour. What a special time with a special boy. I wonder if the Lift Project has had a part to play! I believe so.
I am a counsellor working in private practice and referred to a lot of the content during client sessions. The Lift Project was a good reminder to me as I am constantly working on myself too.
I did this with my husband; we were both discussing each topic every week and sharing how we felt about it; it helped us connect more; it made us realise how important is to implement little techniques that some how seem common sense but now we know how they can positively impact our lives if we actually act on them; it confirms how we can actually make a conscious decision to be happy even though life is not perfect and not everything is according to plan, it is up to us how we decide to face it and how we can be happy and make people around us happy too. These techniques have medical studies to support them; which makes them more valuable but the way the program is developed; allow us to follow the explanations and the reasoning behind each lesson in a very easy manner. I just loved each session and enjoyed the sessions on Wednesday at the library. Thanks for organising this initiative; I truly think it should be rolled out worldwide!!
The Lift Project made me more happy and focus on my life.
I liked how the lessons were delivered over time and we had the opportunity to participate and join in-person events and sessions. That interaction helped to cement my learning. It had a nice balance of being informative and educational while addressing topics with a sense of fun. That helped to make the learning process interesting and engaging.
Positivity, the 1st week set up all the other weeks nicely. It’s an enjoyable experience.
Online selfpaced; some face-to-face. Various modes: email text videos action and reflection. Free Care packages and vouchers. Extremely detailed, presenter tried to make things interesting.
I liked the videos and the handbook. I’m more of a visual person so the science-based educational videos were really helpful to me. I downloaded the handbook before starting the lessons and it motivated me to keep going as I could see the progress I had made by scrolling down the pdf pages.
Weekly reminders and focus on different areas – we had covid during this time and it did help. I really enjoyed the weekly work and also I really enjoyed Dr Darren Morton’s way of explaining the elements of the project.
The lessons were not too long. Videos were good. Messages were clear. Could follow up suggestions during the week and go through resources as required. I loved how it was continuously something really lovely and insightful to read, everything the program offered was beneficial and gave me something to think about on how I can improve my life.
Scientific, easy to understand, practical, small steps, multifaceted issues/solutions, positive, the mid-week reminders. Beneficial, and benefits could be experienced each week, different ways to get the information (2 videos, written, audio, plus extra resources listed. It involved a range of topics, helping me in different ways. Can be done in own time, great messages, wasn’t too time intensive and LOVED the wellbeing packed received.
Well organised. It was a positive and proactive approach, and seemed to accept your own thinking as alright (not having errors or mental health limits).
It came at the right time for me, when I was feeling rather anxious about the negatives in my life and the world news, and it showed me ways to change my way of thinking for the more positive, challenging me to complete certain activities and finding out the benefits for myself. Overall I thought it was a useful program and it helped me become motivated to implement certain changes, in particular exercise and nutritionally. It was really helpful, the mid-week email with different resources and pages.
The Lift Project helped me find groups and pages to apply what I learned in the project. It is very easy to follow and we were able to access it at any time and in different presentations. I felt very identified with most of the tools and ideas Dr Darren provided us and I know all he said can be applied in real life.
The approach of addressing thoughts, behaviours, and feelings is very helpful as sometimes one aspect has more impact than another. I found / find the exercise component the most challenging but the most beneficial.
I did the “grateful exercise” with my partner (but not as formally as our leader with his mother). My partner was so happy and I was as well. I have also done it to a smaller degree with family and friends. I am learning to focus more on the positive in myself rather than striving to do better and better. This helps reduces my anxiety. Thank you.
Non judgemental. Concise expert delivery of course content, congratulations to Council for supporting the free access for city dwellers, such a positive, supportive initiative. It explained the science behind things, and also provided tools to be better equipped to balance our feelings back into a positive attitude.
Have been feeling very overwhelmed at work in my role as a government social worker. The program was a reminder of the strategies that I aim to do and how I want to live my life. Definitely the most useful‚ ‘training’ I have completed. Nice and simple but can be extended if you wish. Was actually ready to quit my role.
It helped me understand some of my thoughts and behaviours.
Doing The Lift Project really gives you insight into what’s going on inside your body and gives you the ability to connect the dots and take action to help you flourish.
Uncertain time while it was on with melanoma diagnosis. The Lift Project gave coping strategies.
It’s helped me to consider other people’s outlook and lifestyle and the possibility that they’re the way they are for a reason. Not everyone has all these elements of a good life lined up, or even good role models. I’m having more compassion for my child’s partner who is struggling and more respect for the ones who are doing well, they’re doing the work to grow and thrive.
I have cancer and I found The Lift Project took me out of my head and back to living. Sometimes when you are facing the unknown you can lose your way and get stuck in a rut. I really think The Lift Project would be a great program for those with cancer, perhaps slightly tweaked to focus more on cancer sufferers. Hope is an important thing for us.
I have already given some gems from the project to my children and grandchildren.
Some topics I knew some information about the neuroscience as I had studied community services cert v and worked in a nursing home (we were educated to know about people’s mental health and simple activities to help change their mood, so the topics and information were really interesting for me…see blue, be in green spaces, mindfulness, breathing exercises. I shared some learnings to my partner who has MS and who has been treated for severe depression with suicide ideation. We try to go out in nature if we are able to (beach swims, walks, rainforest native bushlands parks). It has changed us from being sitting at home in front of the telly during the day.
I work on a demanding social work role. I found the program a very useful tool to remind me what I need to do to keep my cup full and live my life to the fullest each day. Loved the midweek check in too.
It addresses each aspect of life in a detailed way.
I like the lessons were broken down and the theory and insights were explained in an attainable day with the Darren using relatable examples.
It was easy to participate in and it encouraged me to shift my thinking in a positive way.
I liked that it gave you the reasons for symptoms, the science behind things. It was very interesting.
The whole presentation was light hearted and engaging. I took notes and thought about each lesson, thinking I’d like to share what I learned with my husband. Haven’t found the time yet, but I think sharing these kind of projects would add a lot to our relationship and future health, happiness and mental well being. Good summary of all kinds of helpful good life info.
I liked that The Lift Project was very positive and upbeat. That the information was easy to understand and learn. I liked that it was once a week so it gave you the time to incorporate the changes into habits. You could do the course from the comfort of your home at what time you wanted as it was online.
The Lift Project has given me additional tools to not only live my life more abundantly, but to share more effectively with others. This program has the potential to save lives and should be incorporated in the curriculum in every high school. Thank you for caring and sharing.
Thanks for making this available to us in the Tweed. I recommended it to many people via FB and also direct email that live in this region.
Could schedule lessons at a time that suited myself. Found lessons easy to follow and practical information to apply in everyday life.
Simple and practical tasks for you to follow. The information (of the topic) explained simply for you to learn. Great interesting photos and relevant videos, scientific stories. Having a workbook I could print off as my internet and laptop played up a bit to access the online book. I could come back to it when I needed to. It was free…no cost.
The Lift Project gave me a lot of encouragement personally and content that I could use in my classroom to teach my students about the science that proves kindness is worth it. Keep it up!
Prior to the Giving is Living lesson, I always did my best to help others. After completing the lesson, I have learned many different ways that I can give and serve others.
Gave me time to think about how in different times of my life I had already used some of these ideas. I remember my grandmother had passed and I took time to walk and look for the blue and green . I walked in the woods and took a picture in the woods looking up at the sky that day. I still have this a its a beautiful reminder.
As a family, we started getting outside more and had an amazing experience. My 3 year old twins and I stopped for a quick little walk in the woods on our way home from daycare on a Friday. Some other hikers told us the Salmon were running – and they were not kidding! We saw Salmon that had traveled all the way up from Lake Ontario, through Irondequoit Bay, into a small stream. Everyone’s mood was lifted!
One of my students was having a rough week during the blue and green week, and we ended up doing the lesson as a class, then he asked if we could go outside and experience the blue and green. It was amazing that once he got some color in his life that he was laughing and joking with his friends and really just radiating happiness.
I felt more connected to those that were participating, I even talked to people whom I would not have engaged with normally.
We have a positive board that we have in our office where every morning we have to put something positive down. It could be something as simple as a beautiful sunrise, or as meaningful as praising a person. Even if you are having a bad day, it makes you think that there is good in every day. We found that it has a positive effect on those in our office as well as those that come in and read (or write something). The general mood in the office was not good prior to doing this and it is now. Not all days are good, but, in general, it is so much better by starting the day off with a positive message.
While my family did not participate in the readings with me, I did share my learning with them. This created some positive change in our home. We have a very large family with lots of children and it was interesting to see the wide range of familial response to what I took home and shared. As a family we decided to prioritize our dinner time each evening to include a sharing portion from each family member (or they could pass but had to listen to others). We also focused on taking screen time breaks (setting up new constraints on time limits) and making time to take walks out-side instead. We started reading more at bedtime as well.
While I do spend a lot of time outside, The Lift Project made me realize that I miss a lot of things happening. It made me aware that I needed to slow down and “smell the roses”. Thank you.
At my school district, we planned a “Wellness Walk” for our staff in our Pre-K through 12 school district. We strived to combine many elements of The Lift Project: “Blue and Green Should Often Be Seen”, “Move Dynamically”, and “Together Feels Better”. On the day of our walk, the weather was bitter cold! The weather had drastically changed and we were faced with: extremely cold temperatures, gusty wind, snow, and for a slight period of time, sleet. Despite the weather-related challenges and people not having the desired winter weather gear (It was October!), we had about 20 people and four dogs gather for our walk through the woods. 🙂 There was talking, joy laughter, merriment, LOTS of smiles, and folks requesting us to please organize an event like this again. Truly, the time and company were absolute gifts. Thank you for doing this.
This Fall was incredibly challenging from a personal aspect and I would go back to The Lift Project lessons for support. Concepts that I know but need constant reminders especially when my focus is my horri-ble health and family issues. I think that The Lift Project should be shared as much as possible!
When I work with people now I bury any negative thoughts I might have about what I am doing and who I am working with. I always try to keep positive thoughts front and center. A smile always how your reflect how your would feel when meeting new people.
I have slept better, started running, and completed two 5k’s.
The Lift Project really helped me get through some difficult times at my job. I am a clerical worker and at times, I am complained to and spoken to quite rudely by coworkers and irate parents and students. Thinking about how I can do the best to take care of myself and not let every negative thing get to me, has been my biggest takeaway from this project. I am a work in progress, and I am still learning about mindfulness and meditation. I do not need to take on other peoples’ problems as my own. Living a healthier life all-around is the best I can do.
I brought home many of the ideas to my family and we talked about the positive things that happen in the day rather than focusing on the negative. I let my kids vent about what went wrong during the day but then always leave the conversation stating something positive so that is the last thing they are thinking about.
I took the challenge and invested in building new relationships, I sought out a new experience with new people and had a blast! I would not have pushed myself to do it without the support from The Lift Project!
I am having a health scare of cancer right now. We are still seeing what is actually going on inside me. All the positives and attitude in myself and a few people that are actively doing this have helped me smile and think positively and keep moving forward.
The positive effect it had on me, really helped to maintain a positive and reflective work environment.
Because of The Lift Project I have committed to a new workout plan that is “doable” for me, reconnected with some old friends, My husband and I have joined our local Rotary Club to get involved in more service activities, and I started a daily journal where I write down 3 things that went well. I am glad that I participated in this program because it motivated me to make small yet powerful and positive changes for myself!
I have three kids and sometimes things can get kinda crazy. One of the weeks talked about going out in nature and just taking in the scenery, smell, wildlife etc. and after a rough week that is just what we did to reset. We have lots of parks locally and it was perfect. We do hike and get out often but when it’s not a scheduled outing it seemed even better.
I am having a hard time with a close member of my family who is transitioning from male to female and is also trying to quit smoking. They are grumpy and irritable and frequently lash out. This has helped me put their feelings and actions into perspective and focus on my well-being, helping me to reduce my co-dependence and focus on how these mental issues are taking their toll on my physical well-being.
My son is struggling in college. I spoke to him about trying to find something positive every day. Even if it is as little as you got enough sleep last night. I said if you focus on the positives you tend to find more positives and the same with negatives. I will ask him to tell me a positive of the day whenever I talk to him. I’m hoping this is something that will help him get through this struggle adjusting to college.
The Lift Project made me feel accountable and I found that I am now walking more, even when the weather is bad and more difficult. I find I enjoy it no matter the elements and I feel better doing it and afterwards.
The lesson that I found most beneficial was the nutrition one. I have been a vegetarian for many years and the connection between fiber and feeling was amazing to me. I am still trying to put that into practice every day.
I think incorporating more movement is the area that impacts me the most out of all the areas. It improves my mood, my mindset, my focus.
My daughter has had a tragedy in her life. She struggles daily. It is hard for me to help her along with activities that help her well being. She did agree to walk with me, be mindful of what we felt/saw/smelled when we were outside. I was able to talk with her about the lesson that day and how sometimes it would be ok to allow herself to be in the blue and green and take it in. I am so excited to share the lessons I learned in such a gentle format with her. I loved sitting down and expressing how thankful I am to have her here with us. It is kind of silly that I needed The Lift Project to find the encouragement to sit and chat with her in this way.
Nothing specific but just that the techniques and lessons are very effective and I enjoyed listening to, watching and reading the lessons! Some weeks I did all 3!
I enjoyed incorporating my family into some of these lessons to see how they felt too. We all had improved moods with focusing on the positive, and I certainly noticed improvement in my young childrens’ behavior when we were eating better. We found some fun children’s mindfulness videos to incorporate before bed too!
During the course of the seven weeks, two of my friends lost their husbands unexpectedly and two of our family members were hospitalized with life threatening illnesses. I can safely say that The Lift Project helped me in various ways to handle the stress better.
I have been more open and communicative in my relationships and I have understood the importance of taking time/moments away for oneself. Having moments to reconnect with yourself and destress from the events of the day is crucial! Taking some time to listen to a relaxing/calming video, has been life-saving. I now need (and rely) on these moments to get me through the day!
My grandmother passed away right at the end of this episode of The Lift Project and, while it didn’t necessary make the process easier, I was able to talk to some of my loved ones about their response to grief and give them some ideas of how to ameliorate some of their most intense strug-gles during this trying time.
I have been struggling with gut issues for a year now. I sometimes think that it is greatly due to my stress levels. After hearing the research on this topic, it confirms that thought for me. I know I need to work on my stress levels, and after taking this course, I already feel some changes. I have more energy, and my emotional well-being has improved since I’ve been trying to minimize my negative thoughts. It was very interesting to hear the different types of foods that we can eat to heal our gut. I have already went out and bought fibre supplements to support me with this heal-ing process. I have already started to see some changes. I have also started to add more “greens” and colored fruits and veggies to my grocery list!
I started The Lift Project very strongly, I downloaded the workbook , read the lessons, discussed lessons with a co-worker, and practiced what I learned. I was more aware of my body and feelings and made a conscious effort to move more and get outside. Everything seemed on track , then around week 5 it changed, that Tuesday I was hit with awful news, my Mother had passed. I had to power through my emotions, make arrangements, and get the family together. A task made difficult with family spread around the globe. I stopped participating in the upcoming Lift lessons but relied heavily on the ones I had done. Speak positively, move dynamically, immerse myself in a blue and green environment, be in a positive social environment and think positively. I kept applying the lessons to my life. I took small breaks allowing myself to get grounded in nature, I allowed myself to be surrounded by my family and looked for all the good that my mother did and left behind and not get bogged down by sorrow. It was an awful time in my life but I was able to use these lessons to get through it.
It’s very nice to see smiles on people and engage in conversation when I give them a compliment.
Our LIFT group made LIFT jars that collected nice notes about targeted staff each week and deliv-ered the notes each friday. We were able to lift up many of our staff and most of which said they read the notes often and it made their week!
The Lift Project came at a very important time in my life. Several things have been tumbling for a while now and I can certainly use any positive thoughts, uplifting articles, and videos. Seeing the positive rather than the negative is a focus I try to take on every day. In addition to that, I need to learn to take things day by day and realize that some things, I simply cannot change. This is a challenge for me. Last, but not least, my mindset is this – it’s just a moment, some last longer than others, but stay positive, think positive, be kind, and this too shall pass.
I partook in The Lift Project during my last semester of my masters degree which included student teaching while I was already teaching full-time. I was not in a good mental space and was very negative about it. Through this experience, I was able to work through my emotions while helping others and myself. The lessons were something I looked forward to as they gave me realistic skills to destress.
The videos were very watchable. They were a great length and I liked that they were full of content – not waffle!! Relevant topics made applicable to everyday life. I liked that they included research findings. Liked the gut visual with the rope for healthy eating! I like that there is additional information available if you want to read further on a topic, and also that they have a video for younger people to watch. Well thought out and executed.
I really liked the videos and challenges. The videos were very informative and the challenges were very manageable to complete. I also liked that there were different options for listening, reading, or watching the information.
It made me look at aspects of my life that I didn’t regard as important and see that they are in fact, VERY important for both my mental and physical wellbeing.
It’s easy to access and I can go at my own pace. I like that there were multiple ways to get the info. Sometimes I watched the video and other times I read it.
I absolutely loved participating in The Lift Project. My favorite lessons were about the Limbic system, Mindful Moments and the Giving is Living.
I liked learning more about the foods we eat and more about plant based diet.
There was a lot of information in every email. It was easy to read and implement small changes throughout the week.
Very helpful towards living healthier. Was able to talk to others who had taken the courses and talked about how we had completed our weekly challenge.
The messages were clear and actionable. The message was serious, but accessible. I loved having the ability to read the lessons instead of just watching, the options made it easier for me to do.
I liked the strategies and that I could complete it at my own pace. I did the project with a few colleagues and we could discuss it.
The Lift Project was easy to follow and practical to put into the routine I already have. The content is spot on and I will definitely be reviewing and passing on the things I’ve learned. These are the things that I believe are the most important to practice everyday for a long, healthy, happy, life.
I loved that The Lift Project supported values I was already doing in my life. It provided some research based validation on how and why I do the things in my life that I do, that provide me joy, peace and calming.
The Lift Project reinforced many of the concepts I have encountered through my readings in positive psychology; I appreciated the data that was rooted in science and social science to bolster the claims.
I thought the information that was provided weekly was extremely beneficial for overall wellbeing. It made me think more about what I have been doing and what I need to improve on and on how others are around me.
I took the time to do the Lift project and put it to use in my everyday life. It made me think outside of my box.
I liked the videos and found them beneficial to share with students as well. This created great discussion within my classroom. The workbook was also easy to read and understand. I thought all of the modules were very relatable. I enjoyed the Dr and his way of presenting the material.
I like all the positivity, especially when living in an area where it is starting to get colder and darker more often, having an extra something to lift your mood was nice. The Lift Project always comes at a good time of year, right as holiday season ramps up and your have the stresses of work, home and the holidays. Each week is a good reminder to remember to take care of yourself!
I loved the resources for further exploration that went along with the uplifting messages. The videos were great, but the additional resources really helped make the course more meaningful and successful for me.
I always learn something new from The Lift Project and participate more fully every time I participate also. I love that the lessons are not super long and that you can watch videos and read articles. I love that there are additional resources also to look at. The ease of the program is nice because I can do it at my own pace, and I like to go back and look at things a second time. It is a great mental boost especially this time of year when the days are colder and darker. Thanks so much!
It was great to do The Lift Project at my own pace and with support from the Romulus team. Sometimes, we as humans forget the different aspects of wellbeing are tied to everything within our day. I know I did! It was eye-opening to look within to give and receive happiness for myself and others!
I thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated absolutely EVERYTHNG about The Lift Project! Thank you so much! 🙂 Each week I eagerly anticipated the new topic, Darren’s video clips, the articles, and related resources. The posters have been great, as well! I’ve loved posting them around our school to share with other staff members. The mid-week video from Darren was also super. I have loved this project, and felt the weeks passed extremely quickly. Again, many thanks for sharing this with us!
The strategy that I have been implementing is the grateful journal. It is one thing I do for myself after each day. It helps me reflect on all the positive moments that happened within the day and focusing on the glimmers in my life.
I enjoyed the mid week reminders. The lessons were easy to understand. I like the options to either read or watch a video. Overall great information and I really liked the booklet as a visual.
I liked that it reinforced some of the positive mental health activities that I have been doing this past year. I also felt that the Lift Project did a good job of explaining the why behind things.
It went into depth more with practical tips, not just something that was unobtainable.
I enjoyed the lessons, and that I could talk about each week’s lessons with a group of people who were taking the same course.
I have done The Lift Project before. Doing it again helped remind me of some of the pieces I did not incorporate into my lifestyle. The topics and recommended actions really do impact the quality of life. We know it, but forget it sometimes. I think the best part of The Lift Project is the reminders about what we do have control over and how we can be more mindful and thoughtful about taking care of ourselves.
I am going through a health scare at the moment and these few weeks with this course I believe helped me stay positive and look ahead for strength.
I really enjoy the way Dr. Morton breaks everything down, and makes it easy to understand. I also enjoy the multiple modalities in which we can absorb the content.
I like doing the Lift challenge because it helps to be reminded of things that you can do to help focus on your wellbeing. For me the holidays tend to be a very stressful time between all the extra time with family and remembering those who are no longer with us. I like doing the lessons because it helps to remind me that I need to focus on my wellbeing.
I looked forward to the lessons each week, and did find a change in my mental wellbeing. It was a positive uplifting experience! I shared with others in my household about the information I learned. We had some very interesting and uplifting conversations. Thank you for the opportunity and I will be sure to join next year as well!
I liked that the lessons were able to be completed when I was able to. They were not scheduled for a specific date and time. I could read or listen to them while I was working, walking, or sitting on my couch at home. Very easy to fit into schedule.
It really made me think about my thought patterns and actions. A lot of the information that was present was not new concepts for me but taking part in the courses helped me to refocus and prioritize. I liked the research that was used to back up each of the different pillars of healthy living. I found that some weeks challenged me and helped me push myself to try new things. An example is the “food feeds your mood” where I decided to challenge myself and cut out sugar and meats for the week. I normally eat very healthily and love veggies but the week showed me that I have room for improvement and I was surprised at how much just making small changes can have a positive effect on my health. I also liked sharing the program with my family. It led to lots of great conversations at the dinner table and it was helpful to talk about what things each of us were doing to meet our goals. It created accountability for me because I knew they were sharing in the experience.
Thank you for putting this program together. I participated in this program a few years ago. I enjoyed, once again, the different segments weekly. This time around I enjoyed and appreciated the mid week Lift! Kept me accountable. My husband and I did this together, so we were able to keep each other in check also.
I felt like the Lift Project did an incredible job of actually being holistic in its approach to health. Some programs say they are, but lean heavily in one area.
I liked the way the messaging was delivered. Not pushy or judgemental.
I loved watching Dr. Morton smile! He always made me smile whenever I watched his videos. He truly talks the talk and walks the walk! I started off by only watching the kid friendly videos. As the lessons progressed I started watching both the kid friendly video and the adult version. A colleague was wondering what I was watching one day so I told her about The Lift Project. She ended up signing up to take part.
I love learning information about interesting topics and recognizing that they had impact on my life. Thank you.
I liked that The Lift Project was compatible for people of all ages and all physical and emotional needs. I loved the layout and how it was presented in a way that was not overwhelming. I liked how it was broken apart into manageable sections!
Although I know so much of what was presented, I might not have had a specific name for it. Even knowing about health and wellness, The Lift Project made me think more about it at that moment. Sometimes I don’t take the time to think about all the lessons, so reading and listening to the parts of it refreshed me.
I loved the fresh ideas that help us change the views we may have on our wellbeing. I so appreciated the way it was delivered – science based on fact with a gentle approach. I also liked the way that we were reminded how we can care for each other, ourselves, our families.
I loved listening to these weekly lessons. The data was presented in meaningful ways. While some of the information I knew, it was reinforced nicely. I look forward to implementing these strategies more and more in my day to day life.
I liked that the lessons were 15 minutes but participants could do more if their schedule allowed. Some of the information I knew but it was good to review it and attempt some of the weekly challenges.
It was something scheduled and planned for me by someone else to improve my mental well being. Making the time for myself, including making a plan for it, is hard. This was easy to follow and incorporate into my day/week.
This is my 4th time taking The Lift Project. It never ceases to inspire me and remind me of taking care of myself!
In my opinion, The Lift Project is the best prescription for health and well being for every living person! I just sent my son, a third year medical student, the links.
I liked learning the science behind emotions. Also the variety of ways to increase your overall happiness. I also enjoyed meeting weekly with a team of coworkers who have similar philosophies of lifting each other & ourselves up!
It takes complex topics & concepts and breaks them down into easy-to-understand and relatable ways.
I most liked some of the conversations The Lift Project sparked between me and my colleagues. I spoke to some people about the challenge of positive self-talk, and we were able to reflect on that and the deeper challenges associated with The Lift Project. I also was able to use the Project to encourage more intra-staff activities, like basketball in the morning among teachers or ultimate frisbee tournaments.
Easy to follow with flexibility in scheduling and not a huge time commitment each week. Practical applications and helpful tips!
My favorite was together feels better. I loved reading about the different love languages and this one sparked a lot of conversation in our house.
I loved that it gave me the skills to focus on positive thoughts, rather than the negative ones. I tend to have a lot of pessimistic thoughts throughout the way, but I loved learning different strategies to use to gear my thoughts towards positive ones. It really helped to hear all the health issues that can come from being stressed, or hurting your limbo with negative thoughts. It motivated me to make changes in my life.
What I liked most about The Lift Project was that it applied to life as it was happening, The lessons were engaging and straight forward and written in an easily digestible language. The mid week Lift I was also helpful.
I like the different ways to listen or watch. I enjoyed the videos and the mid week updates. I like that my school gave an option to make it a group this year. I’ve done it in the past, but it was better together. They gave little prizes to those who tried the action steps.
I like that it reminds me of ways to live a productive, healthy life. It dives in a little deeper than I was originally thinking before taking the course. And Dr. Morton is awesome. His energy is amazing.
I liked that the videos and lessons were also beneficial for my 9 year old daughter. We watched the videos together and then talked about them and how we could apply what we learned to our lives. I think Motion Creates Emotion was great for her as she can get a bit lazy in front of the TV. Together Feels Better was a great lesson for me.
The fact that I could listen, or read, depending on my preference. I also like that I could do each lesson at my pace. NO pressure. I found that every one of the weeks that I read, gave me pieces of what I needed to lift myself.
I have participated in The Lift Project quite a few times now, and I will continue to sign up every time it is offered!! I love that it reminds you of things we need to be doing for our happiness. It is like a wonderful reset for me. I continue to encourage my young adult children who live in my home to participate – hopefully they will take me up on it!
I liked that I had conversations with colleagues and statements like “you are my LIFT” today happened occasionally throughout the weeks. It was just a reminder that we can enjoy it together, even if we are doing the course solo. I loved that there was an ability to do it at your own pace… even though I sometimes felt I didn’t have time to sit and watch, I could listen to it while driving – which is a big processing time for me when I head to school and home and gives me focus. I appreciated the various ways of input.
I liked that I knew some of the things already and do some of the things as well. But I really liked that it was a reminder to do them. Some of it was an eye opener too. Like the rest part. I always like I am being lazy or not productive if I take a rest almost guilty. I need to remember that I need to take care of myself first before I can take care of anyone else.
The reminders of how important it is to take time for our self – because in the end we are a better person to take care of others.
Everything was positive and upbeat and gave realistic goals to set for the week.
Participating in the 10-week The Lift Project has been a transformative experience for our remote working organisation. The program brought us closer as a community, and scored very highly across the board. In a remote working environment where connection can sometimes be at risk, this program was the crucial link that helped to promote both personal and professional well-being among team members. (Derek)
I look forward to connecting through The Lift Project again. I think this is the best project in the workplace that I have ever done. I can’t say enough about it all around. Thank you so much from me and my family. (Jena)
Delivered beautifully, so easy to watch. I appreciated the multiple options – watch, read, listen.
The practical tips were easy to understand.
It covers all the domains of lifestyle medicine, is easy to practice, and involves all age groups and both genders.
Tips were very practical. Each step was well-guided. There was enough time to practise the lesson before the next started.
It was a very informative course. The best part was that it was also very interesting. I did the project with my husband and we would look forward to the release of the video every week and watch it together. I am a physician, but my husband does not have a medical background. Dr Morton makes each video with all the visuals and examples very easy to understand. The videos were short, crisp and to the point. We did make many positive changes after watching the videos and it has been extremely helpful. I think projects like these should be made accessible to everyone so a lot more people can benefit from it.
The presentation was excellent and entertaining – very fun to watch and easy to remember.
I loved everything that was taught during the course. The only reason why I didn’t experience a radical change was I didn’t have the time to really get into the concepts and practices.
I loved the simple applicable daily steps.
It was an encouraging reminder of ways to improve mental wellbeing despite circumstances, and to make the effort to prioritize. It was also a way to support family in recognizing their own needs without being pushy. I saw them making changes that were needed but they had resisted when it came from me.
This reinforced my own beliefs that lifestyle is key to my own, and patients, health.
The videos are fantastic, extremely thorough content and references. The project reinforces what I currently practice and teach, and there’s always room for improvement and learning more strategies to share with others!
The lessons were all the right length to digest the material, and I enjoyed the homework assignments to put it into practice.
The comprehensive discussion on all the holistic pillars of health. I loved the images, quotes, and even the recording for the younger viewers.
I loved everything – the audio support, written information, so appreciated the enthusiasm from Dr. Darren Morton. I am sharing much of this information with my patients.
I like how the lessons are arranged as well as the content. The content is uplifting, very practical and doable.
Very positive. Gave a lot of useful information on how to improve on many aspects of life. I liked the quotes, I really enjoyed the very short and digestible lessons. This made it possible for me to integrate this into my routine. I used many of the lessons with my team to foster wellbeing!
The presentations were clear and to the point. The visuals were excellent and the experts consulted and quoted were amazing. I look forward to incorporating many of the lessons, especially the Giving and Together chapters because I have just relocated to a new state and want to make sure to get involved with others in important projects, not just stay within my own world.
Loved the reminders that seem so basic, yet all of us forget! Really helped me to live, and see things in a clearer light.
I liked how in-depth all the series were especially that there were different ways to learn (watch, listen and read). It’s very helpful for all learning types.
I liked the videos especially that you had one for younger people.
It has changed my perspective towards life.
This was great to do as a family so we could discuss and have a focus for the week. It was funny and made us laugh. It teaches simple, actionable ways to implement the lessons.
The focus on mental health was presented in such a fun and science-based, but non-pressured, way.
It’s simple way of explaining difficult things. While doing it, it influenced my mood in an “up” direction. It opens new tools to work with with our negative way of thinking and feeling.
I loved everything about it! Great format, and easy and fun to follow! Short bursts of relevant information to promote personal wellness.
I loved the way the way information was packed into 10 bite-sized packages that allowed the message to remain focussed. I loved the challenges offered in each lesson. Really, there was nothing not to love about it. Darren comes across so as being so authentic and real and this really matters.
It was fun and entertaining content. We really loved the activities.
This was the best experience regarding wellness that I have had to date.
Wow. Truly amazing. How inspired. Thank you for using your gifts. Thank you for preparing so much. Very professionally produced videos. Thank you for doing versions for a younger audience.
This is an excellent programme! Warm and light hearted approach. Beautiful scenery and uplifting music. Simple and concise. Recommend it to everyone!
I liked the quick mid-week check-in email kept me engaged.
Such a charismatic and inspiring presenter (thank you, Darren). I really admire your scientific work! I watched the videos with my teenage daughter, sometimes with my husband, and we all use phrases like blue and green should often be seen!
REALLY inspiring, self-lifting work! I especially like the bite-sized information and videos – very engaging and insightful.
I liked the positive focus and actionable points. It was well crafted and the workbook was well integrated.
It was a reminder of our ability to maintain a healthy mental aspect of life through the benefits of reflecting on ourselves and our surroundings. Good reminder to share with my patients and encourage them.
I thought the presentation content was very well done. It was engaging and fun to listen too. Darren has a lot of great stories and is an excellent speaker.
The talking points are simple and suggestions are clear. The videos and photos are very professionally presented. Darren is so personable. My ability to chat with my colleague about the concepts was so rewarding.
Fabulous content. Great job team! The videos were all so positive and edifying – good length and balance.
I loved The Lift Project. The information provided was great as it gave you the scientific reason behind why certain things are good for our mental health. I wanted to share what I had learnt with everyone I knew! I loved how the videos weren’t too long, and that there were practical suggestions on how you can implement learnings into daily life each week.
Great resources, well explained topics and easy to follow. Engaging videos with options to watch, listen and read, great links to other relevant resources, and a reminder in the middle of each week. The activities and challenges were new to me and some were challenging to do, in a good learning kind of way. It had great messages and great production.
I liked the way the lessons were taught, the words and rhymes that made the essence remembered forever. The videos were well made and easy to watch, and the concepts were explained well.
The Lift Project was very well done. It was entertaining, informative with evidence based practice, the doctor walked the talk, the segments were an ideal amount of time and I frequently watched them twice. I looked forward to each week and now I even want to visit Australia!
A lot of helpful and practical ideas and tips. I enjoyed the interactive nature of the workbook.
Lesson 2 was awesome! Regular exercise has been a lifestyle change I made almost 30 years ago. Totally changed my life – both physically, mentally and emotionally! Exercise is my go to for all my problems. Love the videos.
Thankyou for the lessons. Love them. I laughed all the way through the second lesson. You seemed to be talking just to me. It’s very encouraging.
We are nearly 80. We climb a beautiful mountain every morning when the sun is just beginning to shine on the beautiful trees. We swim once or twice a day. We have spent years on the many beaches which are around us. I was at the first meeting when Darren was there at the Mingara Club in the Lifestyle program which began that day.
Brilliant and encouraging program. Specially when we are under Covid-19 lock-down.
It’s outrageously wonderful.
I had the opportunity to share with someone who is feeling somewhat depressed what I had learned.
Thank you to the Lift Project for giving me a reason to live and be happy again. I am grateful for you all. A Big Thank you to the Lift Project team for sharing such valuable information with the community and injecting a positive spirit into our lives.
Thank you Dr Darren Morton for sharing this excellent information. It will definitely be helpful. I live with Cerebral Palsy and have been aware of the importance of a positive attitude to life. It pays dividends!
It’s been amazing. I’ve been sharing tips with my daughter. Both of us really need this. Thank you.
I have been doing a gratitude photo every day and writing down 3 things I am grateful for and what I am looking forward to and it has been amazing. I feel better, I am moving better and feeling happier. Thank you for all your support.
I really needed this today. People who know me would see me as a cheery, happy person. I am. However, that abundant happiness is often elusive as past and current painful matters fight to push my mood down. I am daily finding my way. I choose happiness, moment by moment, but it isn’t always a bed of roses. Thanks for this program.
Before The Lift Project I was feeling very depressed and sad and I was not enjoying anything around me and hating myself. Was losing my temper with my family. Now I’m doing much better, I’m appreciating my family and myself, having better quality time with God. I want to thank the team that put up this program.
I was inspired to go for a walk. Yes, on a grey afternoon it was good to observe the green trees and green grass. The sunlight was shining through too! It gave me a LIFT!
I don’t have a personal testimony but I did incorporate some of the tenets into a college class I teach called Skills for a Healthy Life. I have lectures on resiliency, positive psychology and stress management and already had my students complete a one-week gratitude journal. I had asked them to list three things they were grateful for that day and why, and had to perform one random act of kindness per day. I did incorporate an idea from the Lift Project and asked them to add three things that went well that day and what are you looking forward to. It is my favorite assignment to read and grade!
Initially I thought it would be a time-consuming process with intense use of resources but to my surprise it involved me so much that I used to wait hard for the next lesson and shared it with others! It helped me in making a productive routine with lifestyle interventions. I became more practical, convinced with the scientific background, and things were easy to embed.
I have always been a person on the edge. Anxious about small things in life – type A personality. I have been trying to practice positive emotions – gratitude, helping people in my own way, mindfulness, healthy eating, being outdoor and I see a big change in myself. I feel more energetic, less stressed and more in control of my feelings and emotions. The Lift Project gave me that push to start all these things and I am so thankful for that. Most of the time, especially being a professional, you know things but you need a push to put things into practice and The Lift Project did just that.
I was having a difficult time due to multiple stressful life events that happened when I started the course. I lost weight- my BMI was 20 and went down to 17. Every week, I tried to engage to what I learned. Tried to focus on stress management and all other life-style optimization. Now I no longer blame anyone and I felt much better, energetic, gained weight (BMI 20 now), and started a side business to promote health. Thanks again for the great program. I can certainly recommend it to anyone.
It was a very supportive time for me. I’ve been introducing myself to lifestyle medicine for some months now, but really living it with others through weekly emails and a community makes a real difference. Thank you so much!
I have been trying to improve my wellbeing the past two years. I am a physician, and I used to joke that the worst thing that ever happened to my health was becoming a doctor. However, eventually it was no longer a laughing matter. Between work and busy home needs, I was getting little sleep due to little time, relationships were strained, burnout at work was rearing its ugly head, and I developed central serous retinopathy from all the stress. Thus I began my journey to try to change the vector of my health, and my family’s. As I made changes, I tried to implement them in a way that also benefited my four kids and husband. But even though I improved the environment in which they operated, I could not make internal choices for them. The Lift Project has been a fun and educational way to help them see the why of what I am doing, and let them take on responsibility for positive changes internally for themselves. It has helped them find the healthy ‘why’ for their own choices. I also appreciated this because while going through The Lift Project we had a significant health issue with one of my children. The weekly Lift interaction helped to remind me to let go of some of the additional stress in a healthy way and not lose ground on the gains I had made to improve my mental and physical health.
My relationship with my husband improved after listening to the first lesson. We paid closer attention to our words to each other. We kept reminding ourselves that our “limbo is listening”. My children understood the importance of opening the blinds to allow sunlight in the house and we spent more time outside.
Your limbo is listening was probably the most impactful for me. I have a lifetime (48 years) of speaking terribly to myself. Since the first week I have been able to start changing that and it has made a difference with being more fully present in my life. It has changed my overall mood. There are times when it still happens, but I am able to catch myself and stop the negative self talk and have more grace and forgiveness for myself.
I have told so many of my patients and friends about food and how “food like substances” can produce the same effect as a virus/bacteria – and connecting those dots with the isolation and energy conservation (fatigue) – is profound. My patients have been so appreciative of the insights and conversations we have had as a result of The Lift Project.
The Lift Project has helped me during challenging times. It lifted me when the tasks are overwhelming. It reminded me to speak positively, eat nutritiously, move more, sleep better, and be with nature. Thank you for the lessons.
I have many stressors in my life, as does everyone, but the ongoing motif in these lessons to focus on the positive really helped me recenter myself. Thank you for that. I really needed that.
I have had some issues with close relationships and am going to incorporate some of the suggestions and recommendations in the Forgiveness lesson. They are spot on and I am ready to move beyond the negativity and hurt. I will create a way to reach out and forgive so that these important and valuable relationships can be rekindled in a positive, nurturing and accepting way. It will be especially effective if I can find a way to share the lessons and their importance in all our lives. I will focus on the positivity and appreciation I feel for my relationships, and release the recent differences of opinion and anger.
I’ve always been someone who lets stress take over my own health. I wouldn’t stop for a minute and think “am I okay?”. I would often set myself up for failure because I stressed so much over work. After The Lift Project I used what I learned and every single day I remind myself of the tools I learned. Now instead of asking “am I okay?” I stop for a moment and think is this too much? If it is too much I immediately put myself first because success comes from reaching your success not the success of others.
It was a great experience especially having it to share with family members.
I had a very hard time during pandemia with depression and burn out. Now I’m better thanks to my psychotherapy but also because of many points that are part of The Lift Project; sports, leisure time, being outdoors, etc. This course showed me clearly the way and the tools to have EVERY DAY with us, just to live easier and happier. I’m very grateful for this course.
I loved the revelation that ‘your limbo is listening’. We often say things to ourself we would never say to anyone else. It was so timely to be reminded to be kind to others but also to yourself.
What I learnt via The Lift Project was life affirming, positive and encouraging. The information in the 10 lessons is pure gold, packaged beautifully in a way that is simple, clear and engaging to consume.
After watching the video on how food feeds your mood, our 8 year old son decided he wanted to start eating salads!
We watched the videos as a family. We were so intrigued by the study about journaling on what went well that we all bought journals and are writing in them together at the end of the day.
I am a practising medical practitioner, and so am very much exposed to and challenged by the very real mental health issues facing individuals and society at large. Lifestyle modification and preventive medicine have always been the cornerstone to my approach to all illness, so this was so inspiring for me professionally.
The Lift Project provided me with a really enjoyable platform to focus on Lifestyle issues that influence mental health. The evidence presented and the tools provided were really succinct and easily ‘digestible’. Thus, I was not only able to relay some pointers to my patients each week, but I was able to more mindfully apply the strategies to my own life! My only regret is that my family did not join me in the experience & that I did not get through all the homework – life can be so busy; even when mindful of priorities! Personally, this course reaffirmed my priorities. In a world where there are so so many ‘fixes’ presented to all humans constantly, it was so refreshing to be reminded that the simple things can’t be ignored.
I truly looked forward to each lesson and felt more uplifted throughout the week following. Some lessons were definitely more challenging than others, but that also better identified for me the areas where I needed/ need to ‘dig deeper’.
I think this programme can help improve everyone’s mental health, and am so very grateful that I had the opportunity to do it. Great work Darren!
It’s been very timely, helped me get through a difficult patch in my life and with the sizeable tips and tricks, I’m learning to get into a better headspace. Thank you.
I shared some of the videos with family, and these videos really resonated with some people. My step dad in particular found some of the videos really brought up great childhood memories, and triggered reflections of his life.
I sent them to my daughter in college. I think this would be a great resource for high school and college students.
It was an incredible experience. I was inspired to reinforce and more actively seek some things that I already knew were important, in addition to learning so many other practical ways to live and feel better. We started to prioritize activities together as a family, outdoors, seeing blue and green, and moving more. The Lift Project taught me a lot, especially lessons about positive psychology. Thank you!
I always listened to The Lift Project while I was on my treadmill. Since I like to do a 30-45 minute workout, it was a great warm-up! Often, I would listen to it twice or go back and view the previous weeks information. The concepts and lessons apply to every person in every walk of life. I thought it was fantastic and I loved the accent! Thank you for including me! It was quite beneficial!
The Lift Project is a truly simple but highly effective approach to behavioral changes that will benefit anyone at any age. It’s a game-changer.
A big thank you to the Lift Project team for sharing such valuable information with the community and injecting a positive spirit into our lives.
I was starting to suffer from anxiety due to work pressures caused by Covid 19. This course helped me to break the cycle and change my work life balance. I love my work so I often find it hard to leave after a 9+ hour day. Now I am leaving work earlier and going for a walk before dinner.
I learned where happiness and wellbeing come from. Turns out it’s much easier to get to than I originally thought. This program changed my life! Thank you so much.
I looked forward to receiving the weekly lesson as it inspired me to try different things by going out of my “comfort zone”. This, in turn, boosted my self-confidence and it did become easier to do these things especially by Week 10. It was a fun way to learn but it also challenged me as well. The lessons covered such a broad spectrum of activities as well, including food and exercises. Would highly recommend this to people of all ages.
I liked how easy it was to understand. The light hearted way it was presented yet the information was sound and based on evidenced research. The way it was divided into the 10 week lessons and that the lessons weren’t too long. I was really looking forward to my Monday email so I could get going on the next lesson. I liked that Dr Morton gave you the ‘Challenge by Choice’ to work on each week. This made you really think how you could change your behaviour to lift your mood – it really worked for me. I liked that there were extra links provided to go deeper into the topic.
This year has been challenging for me both physically and mentally, after discovering some lesions on my brain in a routine check. The Lift Project has taught me a great deal over the past few weeks, especially when it comes to the role that our limbic systems play in effecting our everyday moods and actions. I have really taken into account the week on spending more time outdoors, and also spending time with the people you love. My daughter has been such an up-lifting and happy source of wellbeing for me during this difficult time.
Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to share this wellbeing adventure , I am already starting to feel a little better and I am so grateful the time and effort Dr Darren and the team have put into creating this for us.
The Lift Project has been an incredibly rewarding experience for me. I didn’t know what to expect so I had a totally open mind. I looked forward to and enjoyed each lesson as it arrived, each one being an important stepping-stone which comes with its own rewards – if one gets truly involved. Lesson 8 was of special interest to me as relaxing can be difficult and it takes training and perseverance to declutter an always busy mind – the links there provided a brilliant way to meditate and switch off. Lessons 9 & 10 are the pinnacle of course as when you learn to truly serve & give – then you truly “Flourish.” Dr Darren Morton & Dr Jason Hinze, thank you for sharing your knowledge and presenting it so well and making it easy to understand.
Brilliant and encouraging program.
Really well researched, light-heartedly presented, valuable content, doable ‘challenges’, fun recap and accountability.
I found the material informative, well-presented, covered a broad range of research and ideas on the subject of health (with references to books for further reading). It followed through with the challenges and was also fun and entertaining. It also had a personal touch as Dr Darren involved his friend Jason (a good sport!!) and his children.
The programme was presented in a very cheerful, positive manner. The topics were very informative and the programme suggested achievable ways to improve every day health & wellbeing and lift mood.
I thoroughly enjoyed the program and I already feel more confident within myself.
It is easy to understand. I can do it at my pace each week. I have enrolled in both rounds now and each time learnt new things to do and it has had a different effect due to changing life circumstances. How I have taken it on in each round has been different due to the space I have been in at the time…Thank you for the opportunity feel very grateful.
